Capt. Dave Schauber is a native of Maryland's Eastern Shore, where he has lived his entire life. He has more than 30 years of experience in fishing the Chesapeake Bay, Tangier Sound, Honga River, and other local bodies of water. |

For 25 years, from the 1970s through the '90s, he operated sawmills for a living. After relocating to Dorchester County in 1981 to operate another sawmill, he quickly became known in the community as "The Sawyer." To this day, he is still referred to as that. This is the origin of the business name, as well as the name of the boat. |

Not long after moving to Dorchester County, he became acquainted with the middle Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries, and fished there for a number of years. He started out with a small center-console boat, and eventually graduated to a 42-ft. bay-built vessel. In 1992, he obtained his Captain's license and began to offer fishing charters on the weekends and on his days off from work. After a number of years in developing a full clientele, he left the sawmills behind in 1999 to become a full-fledged charter boat captain and fishing guide. His business continued to grow, which ultimately led to the construction of our current boat in 2002. |
